About Me

I'm an author and freelance journalist, venturing into the world of 'blogs' for the first time. Although I usually write from dreams, these are purely formed from my own opinions, observations and general silliness. If you're feeling brave, why not read a couple? Or if you want to go back to the safety of nice, familiar books, venture back to the main site.

Too Paranoid? - Posted on 1/27/2009

I know how everybody is always telling you that your vote counts. Every vote counts, so why waste yours, right?

It's not that I don't believe in voting – in fact, I think it's important that we have a voting system.

And I would vote, but I don't want to be on the electoral roll to vote. In fact, I don't want to be tracked in any way at all.

I'm just one of those people who like to think they're too paranoid to trust ‘the system'. Which is ridiculous because the system is everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.

Of course, I have a debit card and a gym membership, but that's about as far as I've got.

I get warned by friends that I ‘need' to get a credit card because if I want to make a big purchase in future (car, house etc.) then just because I have no credit rating, they won't allow me to buy aforementioned car or house.

Now the situation's changed a little; I am a (joint) homeowner, and to be honest with all the hoo ha I thought I'd transcend this phase with a little more difficulty. Go me.

And I know I'll have to get a passport if I want to go anywhere outside the UK, so therefore I can reason that I'll have to take that step eventually and am perfectly aware of the current situation. Meaning I'm not completely gone, I'm still here. Don't worry. Not quite gone yet.

And considering my love of designer labels, shoes, clothes, handbags etc. (my girly side lets me down) I don't see myself spending the rest of my days living in some shed in the middle of a field, or ‘underground' unable to be tracked by even my closest friends.

But still, I don't want to go over to the ‘dark side' with credit crunch debts and shopaholics anonymous round the corner.

So where does that leave me? Paranoid but accepting, perhaps? Most of us are actually getting increasing paranoid these days – what with email phishing, fraudsters and ridiculous bank charges. Sometimes it can feel like everyone is out to get you.

So am I really so alone in not wanting to leave myself and my personal details wide open by voting? Maybe that's one step too far, but for now I'm happy to sit back and let everyone else make the decisions.

So yes, I'm paranoid, but you may also notice I want to be heard. I'm a writer, that's just what I do. I have a website, I post up my innermost thoughts, publicise my work, and hope that I can get through to at least some of you out there who are just as paranoid as me.

This may sound strange, but I think hunting teaches respect for and value of life. ,

The Van Deventer family had played the game for years at their home, long before they brought the game to radio, and they were so expert at it that they could often nail the answer after only six or seven questions. ,
