About Me

I'm an author and freelance journalist, venturing into the world of 'blogs' for the first time. Although I usually write from dreams, these are purely formed from my own opinions, observations and general silliness. If you're feeling brave, why not read a couple? Or if you want to go back to the safety of nice, familiar books, venture back to the main site.

Anima - Posted on 7/5/2009Note: if youre not into the kind of self-serving crap that we writers have to ejaculate (sorry) every so often, then feel free to give this a miss. However, if youre into psychology and Carl Jung in particular, it might hold slight interest.
Im not a delicate little flower. Ive a sturdy (and at times stubborn) mind and a darkness that I like to embrace the same as the rest of us. Its healthy and its when we become scared of that dark side, that things start to go wrong. It's the stuff of a good horror novel, and you know how much I love those.
We all have it in us. I quote (most appropriately here) Stephen King: At the bottom you see, we are not homo sapiens at all. Our core is madness, the prime directive is murder. What Darwin was too polite to say, my friends, is that we did not come to rule the planet because we were the smartest, or even the meanest, but because we have always been the craziest, most murderous motherfuckers in the jungle.
But if we do not acknowledge this dark side and accept it as a part of us, instead push it to the back of our core and stifle it thats when it comes out later on, sometimes in deadly form.
Carl Jung had his own ideas about this. You see, there is light and dark, good and evil in every single one of us, and he believed that in all of us, there are basically three levels of human evolution and each has its own form of consciousness.
The first level = 44 (or 42 + 2) chromosomes (in a cell) and it is believed that few tribes still exist with these 44 chromosomes, and do not perceive anything outside of themselves think of it as one large consciousness with no distinguishable features between organisms.
Next, we have the chaotic disharmonic consciousness (46 chromosomes, or 44 + 2), which is believed to be us, as we are right now. A stepping stone, if you will, between the first and third levels.
The third level is 48 chromosomes (or 46+2, as in the Tool song the 2 being the sex chromosomes x and y which applies throughout this theory). This is thought of as a higher level of consciousness, where we are headed.
Jung believed that we cannot reach this third level of evolution without first delving into ourselves and basically cleansing our consciousness for the next big step.
This is where your anima comes in. Its the shadow, the darkness inside you and it represents everything about you that is unseen, everything that you are uncomfortable with or hate. I find this theory really interesting. You have to come to terms with and accept your dark side, in order to be a well-balanced, healthy individual (no question) and move on. It is an achievable (in most cases) goal, and something we should all try to work towards.
Quote from Dr. C. Boeree on Jungian Theory:
The goal of life is to realize the self. The self is an archetype that represents the transcendence of all opposites, so that every aspect of your personality is expressed equally. You are then neither and both male and female, neither and both ego and shadow, neither and both good and bad, neither and both conscious and unconscious, neither and both an individual and the whole of creation. And yet, with no oppositions, there is no energy, and you cease to act. Of course, you no longer need to act.
To keep it from getting too mystical, think of it as a new centre, a more balanced position, for your psyche. When you are young, you focus on the ego and worry about the trivialities of the persona. When you are older (assuming you have been developing as you should), you focus a little deeper, on the self, and become closer to all people, all life, even the universe itself. The self-realized person is actually less selfish.
Now Ive started to experiment with my own anima. It is fucking dark, and none too pretty, and I wouldnt even begin to consider posting it here because some things are just too private to share like that.
Suffice to say, Im not afraid of my dark side. I still have a way to go before I can achieve what is even hinted at here (whether that is possible or not, who knows, but I still find it interesting) but at least Im doing it, for myself.
And just on a side note, I dont half seem to upset people sometimes. I dont mean to, but I seem to have some kind of personality disorder that means I cant seem to stop myself from saying whatever is in my head, regardless of the consequences. If this applies to you, then I apologise for any undue upset I may have caused.

Comment from Tim The thing is there are people who think things and keep it quiet, and others who are completely honest and up front with their thoughts. Also some people get easily offended and others are hard skinned. It really just depends on the person, how they have grown up, what their parents were like etc.. Posted 7/10/2009
Comment from Aimeee =] Ohhh interesting Theories... which i actually understand... go me hah. I guess Tim's right though it all depends on the person =) see you soon hopefully. lovee xxx Posted 7/13/2009
Comment from B I love all the dark stuff... it's so much more interesting! I try to break down all the barriers by being as honest as I can push myself to be and sometimes people can't handle that, and I hate the thought of upsetting anyone.

Comment from B You know, normally I would mind the shameless self promotion, but on this occasion it really is worth listening to an Aussie radio presenter - and with a show named Crazy Talk/Word Berserk it's worth checking out. As long, James, as you are your usual outspoken self and talk exactly the way you do on msn, otherwise it'd just be boring. Listen to James, everyone, maybe he'll tell us his dark side.
