Subscribe to RSS About Me ![]() I'm an author and freelance journalist, venturing into the world of 'blogs' for the first time. Although I usually write from dreams, these are purely formed from my own opinions, observations and general silliness. If you're feeling brave, why not read a couple? Or if you want to go back to the safety of nice, familiar books, venture back to the main site. |
![]() Nightswallow Signings - Posted on 3/1/2009So now that the Nightswallow launch is out the way, I can take a big sigh of relief and... Yep, you've guessed it, prepare for the next signings! It went well yesterday. The book sold out, it was a nice day and I got to meet a lot of lovely people – I'd like to say thanks especially to a lovely man called ‘Big Red' who made me laugh and bought both of my books on the day. Also I was a lucky girl to have the support of both my parents yesterday – they stayed for longer than I expected and my mum bought me a big bag of Malteasers to see me through, which I proceeded to offer to most of my ‘guests'! You know, I'd almost forgotten what it feels like to be up there in the signing seat; there's the fear of rejection, that no-one is going to show up, that people are just not going to be interested. And of course there's plenty of that along the way, but there's a lot more who are very pleasant and people I can really have a good chat to! That's what I like most about the signings, as well as people genuinely being interested in my work. It's sort of reassuring, in a way, for an ‘unknown' like me to sell as many books as I do. I'm nowhere near on the bestseller lists, or anything like that, but I'm only just getting started and ‘making my mark' in the world. It'd be nice to think that one day I'll have really found my way in the book industry but right now, I'm quite happy to go with the flow and see where life takes me next – including writing Grassmarket Blood which is an ongoing project that's really going off-the-scale in terms of size and complexity. As for book signings, the next one is on March 14 at Waterstones, Argyle Street (Glasgow) so feel free to come by for a signed book and a chat! Maybe see you there. Add a comment |
